Using Gemini (AI) in the Classroom: Generative AI & Custom Gems

This course is designed to equip PreK-12 educators with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to integrate generative AI, specifically Gemini and its Custom Gems feature, into their instructional practice. Participants will move beyond basic querying/prompts to master advanced prompt engineering, ethical considerations, and the creation of personalized AI assistants (Gems) that streamline administrative tasks, differentiate content, and enhance student engagement. You’ll leave this course with new ideas culminating in a final comprehensive instructional action plan.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • The participant will analyze the ethical and equity implications of generative AI (Gemini) in PreK-12 settings.
  • The participant will apply advanced prompt engineering techniques to generate, evaluate, and refine high-quality instructional materials.
  • The participant will discuss ways to improve teaching by creating and sharing personalized AI assistants (Custom Gems).
  • The participant will create an action plan to use after this course.
