This course introduces PreK–12 educators to using Gemini and Custom Gems to support instruction, streamline administrative tasks, and enhance student engagement. Participants will explore advanced prompt engineering, ethical considerations, and practical strategies for creating personalized AI assistants that support differentiated learning. Generative AI is reshaping education by giving educators powerful new ways to plan lessons, personalize instruction, and streamline everyday classroom responsibilities. Google’s Gemini platform, along with its Custom Gems feature, allows teachers to create personalized AI assistants that can support everything from content creation and differentiation to administrative tasks and student engagement. This course helps educators move beyond basic AI prompts and unlock the full potential of these emerging tools.

Participants will develop advanced prompt engineering skills, explore ethical considerations surrounding AI in education, and learn how to design Custom Gems tailored to their unique teaching needs. Through practical activities and classroom-focused applications, educators will build AI-powered workflows that enhance instruction while saving valuable time. The course concludes with the creation of a comprehensive instructional action plan for implementing Gemini and Custom Gems effectively in the classroom.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • The participant will analyze the ethical and equity implications of generative AI (Gemini) in PreK-12 settings.
  • The participant will apply advanced prompt engineering techniques to generate, evaluate, and refine high-quality instructional materials.
  • The participant will discuss ways to improve teaching by creating and sharing personalized AI assistants (Custom Gems).
  • The participant will create an action plan to use after this course.
