Our Instructors

Tyler Youngers

Tyler Youngers is the founder and lead instructor for Grow Professionally. All of his courses are featured on ISEA Academy. Additionally, Tyler is a former adjunct instructor for Northwestern College and does independent education consulting/instructional design/TQ course development with PreK-12 and higher education partners.

He has taught face-to-face, blended, and online courses on a variety of instructional practices and technologies with over 10 years of experience leading Iowa teaching license renewal classes and graduate courses.

Stephanie Scott

Stephanie Scott is an associate instructor at Grow Professionally. Stephanie has teaching experience at the elementary level and has a master’s in curriculum and instruction. She is currently teaching book studies for “The Deepest Well” and “What Happened to You,” both of which are available for graduate credit or license renewal. Check them out today!

Janelle Thompson

Janelle Thompson is a seasoned Curriculum Consultant and Instructional Coach with a strong background in enhancing K-12 literacy and student achievement through data-driven instructional strategies. Her experience in curriculum evaluation and professional development allows her to effectively merge innovative educational technology with evidence-based coaching techniques to foster academic excellence.

Steven McHugh

Steve is in his 24th year of public education. During that time, he has been a general education math teacher, ELL teacher, and special education teacher at the secondary level. He also worked as an instructional coach and an educational consultant at Northwest AEA in Sioux City, focusing on math, ELL, TAG, and school improvement.
 
Steve is also an academic coordinator and adjunct instructor for Morningside College.
 
Steve holds a B.S. from Morningside in Secondary Math Teaching, a MAT from Morningside in Special Education, and an Ed.S. in Educational Administration from the University of South Dakota. Steve is also a doctoral student at USD in the Curriculum and Instruction Division, emphasizing Special Education.

Jill Kerr

Jill Kerr brings 18 years of experience in education, having served as an elementary classroom teacher, self-contained and resource special education teacher, instructional coach, and administrator. These roles have shaped her practical, student-centered approach to supporting both teachers and learners.

Marisa Dahl

Marisa brings 20 years of experience in education, with 8 years in the early childhood classroom to Grow Professionally. Currently, Marisa is an innovative Learning and Development professional with over two decades of experience in designing transformative educational experiences. Currently serving as a Senior eLearning Designer for a local insurance company.

Katy Evenson

Katy has a wide-range of experience in education, starting as a paraeducator. She has teaching experience at the elementary, middle school, high school, and post-secondary levels. Before joining the area education agency as an educational consultant, she served as a curriculum/professional development coordinator for a local district. During her time at the AEA, she facilitated many professional development sessions and coached teachers as they implemented new initiatives. She retired from the area education system as the Executive Director of Integrated Services, overseeing the special education, education services, and media divisions. She has been an online teacher for Morningside and Northwestern Colleges and now, Grow Professionally, in northwest Iowa. Katy currently works as the president of Education Solutions, a education consulting agency.

Emily Starr

Emily Starr brings over 20 years of curriculum development and professional learning experience focused on helping elementary teachers impact students. In addition to her classroom teaching experience, Emily researched best practices in science education as the principal investigator for five federally-funded grants, co-developed and led Iowa’s science professional learning elementary sessions, presented at state and national conferences including NSTA, and is a peer reviewer for the journal, Science and Children. She combines her MA in Children’s Literature with her expertise in science education to create courses that celebrate cross-curricular integration.
