The purpose of this course is to introduce teachers to design thinking as a way to increase creativity in the classroom with design projects. Teachers will explore the concept of design thinking, learn about the LAUNCH cycle and how it can all be integrated into the classroom. Teachers will apply the LAUNCH cycle to their content as they create lesson plans that offer more opportunities for students to be creative/makers. Teachers will gain experience over the design thinking framework for K-12 students to support efficient design thinking instructional design, will participate in active discussions about the instructional purpose and goals of the design thinking framework and the LAUNCH cycle, and participants will learn how to make instructional decisions to increase creativity using these ideas.
A variety of resources on the design thinking framework and LAUNCH cycle will be taught, shared, and discussed with time given for participants to create lesson plans to be used in their classrooms.
