Course Description:

This course offers an in-depth exploration of social class and its impact on educational environments, helping educators define and contextualize social class within the classroom. Through interactive online tools like $Dollar Street and critical examination of local and global data, students will analyze income disparities and daily life at various economic levels worldwide. Participants will develop a lesson plan designed to foster students’ understanding of social class, economic inequalities, and the importance of global citizenship.

Key course activities include assessing local and global poverty data, identifying social class disparities within one’s own community, and understanding the role of financial literacy in shaping economic opportunities. By examining financial literacy standards and their applications, students will gain practical tools for integrating economic awareness and equity into their teaching practices.
